Wolves of the Dawn: The Weird becomes Normal (RP for dawnwolf13)
“Oh yeah!” Mikey said, “I can teach you right after breakfast!”
“Make sure you don’t set up any ramps or anything in the living room.” Scarlett said, “Remember you guys got grounded last time?”
“Ramps aren’t for beginners.” Mikey replied, “Loosen your kneepads will ya?” Raph gave one death glare with growls to match to Mikey, which made him quickly put up his hands.
“Alright! Alright! Sorry Scarlett.” Mikey said, “Geez Raph you’re grumpier than usual this morning.”
“Don’t snap at my girl.” Raphael growled.
“Grump.” Mikey muttered.
Izana leaned over to Scarlett and whispered, “Is this normal?”
“Normal for us?” Scarlett whispered back, “Yes. Normal for most people? No clue.”
“Play nice boys.” Scarlett said, “Or i’ll make you guys miss lunch.”
“No fair!” Mikey groaned, “HE started it.”
“YOU started it.” Raph snapped, then leaned against Scarlett, nuzzling her shoulder.
“Stop being so cute, red.” Scarlett said in her usual teasing tone before kissing him on the head.
“Come on, Mikey, let’s just go.” Izana said, dragging Mikey out of the room before there was another disagreement.
“We can use Scarlett’s skateboard since she never uses it!” Mikey said.
“YES YOU MAY!” Scarlett called so the two of them could hear. Mikey chuckled as he brought over two boards, one his and the other one pure black with silver designs on it.
“So first basics.” Mikey said as he got on his board, “You lean to turn. That takes practice. To go you just kick off with your foot and to stop, you place a foot down on the ground.”
Izana carefully balanced herself on the black skateboard as she listened to Mikey’s instructions. She kicked the ground and grinned as the skateboard rolled forward. Izana put her foot on the ground again to stop the skateboard, still grinning.
“Is that right?” she asked, turning to look at Mikey.
“Perfect!” Mikey said as he gave a thumbs up, “now this time try turning.”
Izana nodded and turned back around. She pushed her foot off the ground and tried leaning to the left. Izana lost her balance and fell.
Mikey was able to break her fall slightly, catching her to keep her from slamming into the ground.
“Close!” Mikey said, “you okay?”Izana blinked, her eyes wide with shock.
“Yeah.” she panted, “Yeah… just… yeah.”
“It’s a lot harder than it looks.” Scarlett said as she leaned against the wall, “that’s why the board collects dust.”
Izana sat up as she recovered from the fall, “No kidding. That was scary!”
“Gets easier the more you practice.” Mikey said.
Izana stood up after a moment, “Ok, let’s try that again.”
Izana got back on the skateboard and pushed her foot against the ground balancing carefully as she leaned the skateboard to the left again. This time she managed to stay balanced as it turned before stopping the skateboard. She turned back to Mikey, smiling.“Is that good?” Izana asked.
“Thats was great!” Mikey said.
“Pretty good.” Scarlett said, “I fell the first time I tried. Never tried again.”
“Well, practice makes perfect is what I’ve heard.” Izana stated, “It’s nice to learn something with people- well, turtles- that won’t run screaming the second they see me.”
Izana tried turning the skateboard again.
“Yeah, I know how that is.” Mikey said.
“I didn’t run screaming.” Scarlett said.
“You also had a thing for turtles. And you’re an alien. So that kinda counts you out.” Mikey replied.
Izana laughed good naturedly as she tried turning the opposite way.
“Whatever you say, Mikey.” Scarlett said, “You two have fun. I’m gonna try to get some training in.”
“You sound like Leo.” Mikey teased.
“Leo doesn’t have to train with his powers, Mikey.” Scarlett said, “And neither do you.” She disappeared, leaving Mikey to watch Izana.
Izana kept practicing turning the skateboard.
“I never gone to school.” she started awkwardly, “Always wanted to though. What’s it like? One of you guys should know.”
Mikey smiled.
“You’d have to ask Scarlett or April about that.” Mikey said, “We learned everything from Sensei. Scarlett went to school for a little while, teaches at a dojo a couple times a week. April goes every day.”“Ok. I’ll ask Scarlett later.” Izana said, “I think I’ve got this turning thing. What’s next?”
“Well practicing the basics over and over again is good.” Mikey said, “Then we can start doing tricks and stuff!”
Izana smiled, “Ok.”
Izana pushed her foot against the ground again and tried to turn, forgetting that there was a wall next to her, and smacked into it. She stumbled backwards, dazed, and fell into the ‘pit.’
Before Izana hit the ground, she stopped mid air. Scarlett appeared, holding her hand up before gently setting Izana down, no injuries.
“Careful, a fall like that can be a nasty one.” Scarlett said as she walked over, “You okay?”
Izana sat up feeling dizzy, “Yeah, I’m alright. A little dizzy but I’ve done worse. Nearly broke my arm once. That was a while ago. Hey, what’s school like?”
“Broken bones aren’t fun.” Scarlett replied then thought about the school question, “Nothing special to most people. Just a huge group of people your age in a room with a teacher and you learn all sorts of different things that they deem important.”
“Learning? How could someone not enjoy learning? Sounds like school is great!” Izana said with a smile.
“A lot of people find school like that annoying.” Scarlett said, “I enjoy teaching and learning.”
Izana looked at Scarlett and grinned, “Think you could teach me anything?”
“Well it depends on why you’d like to learn.” Scarlett said, “I used to tutor English students and I teach little kids ninjutsu.
Izana’s grin got even wider, “English is one of those things they teach in schools isn’t it?”
“Yeah it is.” Scarlett said, “literature.”
“Could you teach me some?” Izana asked eagerly, practically jumping to her feet.
“I would be happy to.” Scarlett said, “Can you read and write?”
Izana shook her head, “How many times have I told you that I’m uneducated?”
“Well you’ve come to the right place.” Scarlett said happily.
“Yeah!” Mikey exclaimed, “Scarlett is a great teacher!”
“So you’ll teach me!” Izana gave Scarlett in a bear hug, “Thankyouthankyouthankyou!”
“You’re very welcome, Izana.” Scarlett said, “I’ll pick up some of my books and stuff when I go out today.”
Izana was literally vibrating with excitement.
“This is so exciting! I’ve never been able to learn before! Thank you so much!” Izana exclaimed.
